Installation of the new Chancellor
18 December 2007
Last Friday was the installation of the new Chancellor of the University. I was invited to the event along with all the other Education Reps to represent the student body as a whole. As such, we were actually probably the only students there which was a little unnerving at first but then I saw a few familiar faces in the crowd; a mix of lecturers and members of staff from all parts of the University.
We started the morning in a large marquee at the London Road campus with drinks and nibbles socialising with a large mix of people before moving to the Great Hall for the ceremony itself. This was an event packed with rich tradition and was something I’ve never seen before. After the hour ceremony, we came back to Whiteknights to have a buffet lunch at Cedars.
It’s important to note that going to events and having lunch is not what my job is just about, however, these events provide a great opportunity to further the representation of students to people higher up in the chain where action can actually be taken.
Update: You can also see a short video of the event.
